Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is pain felt by women during menstruation due to prostaglandin production and usually occurs in the pelvic area. Dysmenorrhea usually occurs soon after experiencing the first menstruation (menarche). Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the incidence of women
experiencing dysmenorrhea is 1,769,425 people (90%) with 10-15% experiencing severe dysmenorrhea. This study aims to determine the effect of giving ginger water on reducing dysmenorrhea pain in young women at Pmb Dewi Sesmera Medan City in 2023.The research design used the Pre-Experimental Design, which is a plan that includes only one patient or a group of female adolescent patients who are given pro and post-tests. With a one-group pretest-posttest design approach, this is a research activity that provides an initial test (pretest) before being given treatment, after being given treatment, then it gives a final test (posttest). From the results of the study, it was found that the effect before giving ginger water obtained an average value of 3,10 and the frequency of pain reduction after being given ginger water obtained an average value of 1,70. From the statistical test results, namely the t test with a 95% confidence level, it is known that the p-value is 0,001 <0,05.The conclusion in this study is that there is an effect of giving ginger water on reducing dysmenorrhea pain in female adolescent patients at Pmb Dewi Sesmera Medan City in 2023. It is recommended that the results of this study be
for midwives to use ginger as a non-pharmacologicaltreatment to treat dysmenorrhea pain.
