Abstract

Background: Pain during labor is a physiological condition experienced by every woman in going through the birth process. Pain during labor also causes discomfort experienced by the mother during labor. Excessive pain can result in prolonged labour, which is one of the causes of maternal death. Objective: To analyze the effect of counter pressure and pelvic rocking in reducing pain intensity and progress of active phase labor in primigravida mothers.
Methods: This study uses quantitative research with quasi-experimental research methods which was carried out at the Nirmala Primary Clinic in Medan City. The sample in this study were 32 respondents in the active phase of primigravida mothers who were taken using the accidental sampling technique. In this study divided into two groups, namely the control group and the intervention group. The
control group is the group that was not given any treatment. As for the intervention group, namely the group that was given the treatment. Then measurement of pain scale and progress of labor before and after the intervention was carried out using the Wong Beker Face Rating Scale pain scale and partograph sheet. Results: There was an effect of decreasing the intensity of labor pain and the progress of labor after Counter Pressure and Pelvic Rocking in Primigravida Mothers who were given intervention compared to the group that was not given intervention.Conclusion: There is an influence between the provision of counter pressure and pelvic rocking in reducing pain intensity and progress in labor in women giving birth who were given the intervention compared to women giving birth who were
not given treatment in the control group.
