Abstract

Bacground Hyperemesis gravidarum is excessive nausea and vomiting in pregnant women to the point that it interferes with daily activities because it generally worsens, due to dehydration. The cause of hyperemesis gravidarum is not yet known for certain, but it is thought to be due to anincrease in the hormones estrogen and HCG (Chorionic Gonadotropin Hormone) in serum. In general, women can adapt to this condition, however, symptoms of severe nausea and vomiting can last up to 4 months. So that daily activities are disrupted and the general condition worsens. Objective to determine the factors that influence the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum at Citra Medika Hospital, Percut Sei Tuan District, North Sumatra Province in 2024. Method This study uses an analytical survey method with a case-control design. The purpose of this analytical survey is for a retrospective approach. Involving 24 pregnant women who experienced hyperemesis gravidarum, samples with a population of all pregnant women visiting Citra Medika Hospital totaling 553 people. Results: This study found an association between age and the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum with a p-value of 0.030 <0.05. Parity and hyperemesis gravidarum were also associated with a p-value of 0.009 <0.05. Pregnancy spacing and hyperemesis gravidarum were also associated with a p-value of 0.000 <0.05. Occupation and hyperemesis gravidarum were also associated with a p-value of 0.000 <0.05. Conclusion There is a significant association between age, parity, pregnancy
spacing, and occupation with the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum.
