Abstract

Pleural effusion is a condition caused by the accumulation of excess fluid in the pleural cavity. The world health organization globally estimates that cases of pleural effusion are in third place with around 10 to 15 million cases with approximately 200 thousand deaths each year. Pleural effusion is caused by infectious or non-infectious diseases. The cause of the increase in the number of pleural effusions is due to delays in patients getting their health checked. Pleural effusion has a very serious impact if not treated immediately, namely it can result in atelectasis in incomplete lung expansion due to pressure due to fluid buildup in the pleura. Installation of a WSD is the most important action to help restore conditions in the pleural cavity to normal. This research was carried out with the
aim of understanding the application of nursing care to patients with pleural effusion and being able to apply it in the mahogany room at USU Hospital. So, from the results of the research, the author addresses nursing care for Mrs. M
with pleural effusion in the mahogany room at USU Hospital. The research design used was descriptive which aimed to directly explore the problems experienced by clients with pleural effusion at USU Hospital. The conclusion obtained was that after implementing nursing care on Mrs. coughing is effective for reducing shortness of breath that arises due to ineffective breathing patterns, Mrs. M was able to perform passive and active range of motion exercises due to
activity intolerance caused by the WSD tube installed.
