Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding plays a fundamental role in ensuring optimal growth and development during the first six months of an infant’s life. This study focuses on the midwifery care provided to Mrs. L during her pregnancy, with an emphasis on exclusive breastfeeding promotion. The study
was conducted at Bidan Farmi Clinic, Musirawas Utara Regency, South Sumatra, employing a descriptive method through a case study approach. The midwifery care followed the seven-step management approach outlined by Helen Varney, which includes data assessment, data interpretation, identifying potential problems, taking immediate action, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care provided. Data collection involved interviews, documentation, and
observations of Mrs. L's health condition across three visits. The assessment revealed that Mrs. L and her fetus were in normal health, with no identified complications. There were no significant discrepancies between the theoretical principles of midwifery care and their application in practice. The study’s findings emphasize the importance of regular monitoring of maternal health and ensuring a balanced nutritional intake during pregnancy. Moreover, providing thorough education about the significance of exclusive breastfeeding was crucial in enhancing Mrs. L’s understanding and commitment to infant nutrition. In conclusion, midwifery care that follows a structured management framework ensures not only the health of the mother and fetus but also prepares the family for effective postnatal care, particularly in promoting exclusive breastfeeding.
