Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory disorder that is progressive and incurable, but it can be managed through proper medical and nursing care. The purpose of this study is to implement and evaluate
medical-surgical nursing care for Mr. H, who was treated at Adam Malik Hospital under the Ministry of Health with a COPD diagnosis. The method used is a descriptive case study with a nursing process approach, which includes assessment,
nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of this study was one patient, Mr. H, with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The results of the nursing care showed that the patient had three main diagnoses, namely: ineffective airway clearance, ineffective breathing pattern, and activity intolerance. Nursing interventions focused on providing a semi-Fowler's position
to facilitate lung expansion, monitoring the frequency and pattern of breathing, and teaching effective coughing techniques. Providing oxygen therapy according to medical indications, as well as assisting patients in performing gradual activities according to their tolerance. Evaluation was conducted over three days and showed that the three nursing diagnoses were still partially resolved, necessitating ongoing monitoring and further interventions. Conclusion This study emphasizes the important role of nurses in the management of COPD patients to optimally improve patients' quality of life.
