Factors Affecting Complications in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy at Citra Medika Hospital, Percut Sei Tuan District, North Sumatra Province in 2024

Background: Pregnancy complications are health problems that can affect a mother during pregnancy and even during childbirth. These complications can negatively impact both the mother and the fetus. The World Health Organization
(WHO) stated in 2023 that the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) was very high in 2020, with many deaths occurring during pregnancy and childbirth, reaching 287,000.
Objective: This study aims to determine the factors influencing complications in the third trimester of pregnancy.
Research Method: Quantitative, analytical, and observational, using a casecontrol study. The population of this study was all pregnant women experiencing third-trimester pregnancy complications and those with complete data from June to December 2023 at Citra Medika Hospital. There were 536 respondents and a sample of 48 respondents.
Results: The study, using a chi-square test, demonstrated an effect of maternal age on pregnancy complications, with a ρ value of 0.006 <0.05. Mothers aged <20 years and >35 years were at higher risk of experiencing pregnancy complications. Parity influenced pregnancy complications, with a ρ value of 0.020 <0.05. Multigravida mothers were at higher risk of experiencing pregnancy complications, and pregnancy spacing influenced pregnancy complications, with a ρ value of 0.018 <0.05. Mothers with pregnancy spacings of <2 years and >5
years were at higher risk of experiencing pregnancy complications.
Conclusion: This study found a significant relationship between age, parity, and pregnancy spacing with the incidence of third-trimester pregnancy complications
at Citra Medika Hospital.
