Abstract

Background : The World Health Organization (WHO, 2019) estimates that there is 1 incident of Down Syndrome per 1,000 births to 1 incident per 1,100 births worldwide. Every year, around 3,000 - 5,000 children are born with this condition. WHO estimates that there are 8 million Down Syndrome sufferers worldwide, while according to Riskesdes data in 2018, the prevalence of Down Syndrome was 0.21%, and this value increased rapidly from the previous value of 0.13%. Method : This type of research is descriptive analytical with a cross sectional research design which is a study to study the dynamics of the correlation between risk factors and effects by approaching or collecting data at one time. The population in this study was 72 and the sample
used in this study was in accordance with predetermined criteria, totaling 42 samples using purposive sampling technique. Results : Based on the results of the bivariate analysis, it shows that parity does not have a very close relationship to the occurrence of Down Syndrome in children at H Adam Malik Hospital with a p-value = 031 (> 0.05).while in the variable of mother's age, the result of pvalue = 0.05 (p <0.05) which means that mother's age has a relationship with the incidence of Down Syndrome in children. In the Genetic variable, the p-value = 0.00 (<0.05) which means
that genetics has a very high relationship with theincidence of Down Syndrome in children. In the variable of Father's Age, the p-value obtained p-value = 005 (<0.05) which means that the variable of father's age has a relationship with the incidence of Down Syndrome in children. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between the parity variable and the incidence of Down Syndrome in children, while in the variables of mother's age, genetics, and father's age are variables that have a significant relationship with the incidence of Down Syndrome inchildren.
