Abstract
Background: Nausea and vomiting are often the first signs of pregnancy for the general public, especially because of the long menstrual cycle. Therefore, some pregnant women only realise their pregnancy after experiencing these symptoms.
Nausea and vomiting are common in pregnancy, but if they occur more than ten times a day, this condition is categorised as hyperemesis gravidarum or chronic nausea and vomiting. Hyperemesis gravidarum can cause carbohydrate reserves in the body to be used up as energy, so the body starts using fat and protein reserves. Due to incomplete fat burning, ketone bodies are formed in the blood, which can
aggravate clinical symptoms. Research Objective:To determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding hyperemesis gravidarum with the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum at PMB Dina Sari Marpaung, Semula Jadi Village, Tanjung Balai City. Research Methods: This study used an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design, where observation and measurement of dependent and independent variables were carried out
simultaneously. Research Results: From the results of the chi square statistical test, the relationship between the knowledge of pregnant women about hyperemesis gravidarum with the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum obtained X2 6.062 and p-Value 0.014 <0.05 while the attitude of pregnant women about hyperemesis gravidarum with the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum obtained the results of the chi square statistical test obtained X2 4.851 and p-Value 0.02 <0.05. Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about hyperemesis gravidarum with the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum at PMB Dina Sari Marpaung, Semula Jadi Village, Tanjung Balai City.
