Abstract

Background: Data from the World Health Organization for 2021, the maternal mortality rate in the world is 391,000 people. The number of maternal deaths collected from family health program records at the Ministry of Health increases
every year. In 2021 there were 7,389 deaths in Indonesia. This number shows an increase compared to 2020 of 4,627 deaths. Meanwhile, the incidence of polyhydramnios in the world ranges from 1.1-2.8% of all pregnancies caused by
complications during pregnancy and childbirth and 8-18% with fetal abnormalities. he success of maternal health programs can be assessed through the main indicator of the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR). Maternal mortality in this indicator is defined as all deaths during the pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period that can be managed and are not caused by other factors but not such as accidents or disasters, MMR is all deaths in that range in every 100,000 live births.
Method: This study employs a quantitative research design to obtain data from past or present events, classified into structured data. The research design is observational analytic, specifically a case-control study, examining risk factors using a retrospective approach. Results: The study included 36 samples, consisting of 18 patients diagnosed with polyhydramnios and 18 who were not. Among the 18 patients diagnosed with polyhydramnios, 19 respondents were aged <20 years or >35 years, while 17 were between 20-35 years old. Additionally, the majority of pregnant women with
diabetes accounted for 24 respondents, while 12 were non-diabetic. The bivariate analysis using the chi-square test resulted in a p-value of 0.019 with an OR of 5.2, indicating that polyhydramnios is significantly associated with high-risk maternal age (<20 years and >35 years). Furthermore, a p-value of 0.034 and an OR of 5.0 suggest thatpolyhydramnios is more likely to occur in mothers with diabetes than in those without. Conclusion: The study on the relationship between maternal age and diabetes with the incidence of polyhydramnios in pregnant women at RSUP H. Adam Malik in
2023 concludes that there is a significant association between maternal age and the occurrence of polyhydramnios. Age is a risk factor for polyhydramnios.
