Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy is a serious global health issue as it increases the risk of premature birth, maternal and child mortality, and infections. The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia has reached 48.9%, while in the Aceh region, it is recorded at 12.84%. Improper iron supplement consumption behavior, such as taking them with tea or coffee, significantly affects iron absorption and the incidence of anemia. Objective: To determine the relationship between iron supplement consumption behavior and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women at PMB Erna
Wati, Lawe Sumur District, Southeast Aceh Regency in 2024.
Methods: This study used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all 50 pregnant women visiting PMB Erna Wati, with a sample of 35 respondents analyzed. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. Results: The results showed that out of 35 respondents, 25 (71.4%) had poor behavior, of which 20 (57.1%) experienced anemia. Meanwhile, out of 10 respondents (28.6%) with good behavior, only 2 (5.7%) experienced anemia. Statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.006 < 0.05 with an OR value of 3.728.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between iron supplement consumption behavior and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women. Pregnant women with negative behavior are 3.7 times more likely to experience anemia compared to those
with positive behavior.
