Abstract

Background: Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a condition of continuous vomiting during pregnancy that causes various disorders of body balance such as dehydration, electrolyte disorders, malnutrition and can even cause death. The
etiology is not yet known for certain. Some risk factors are maternal age, parity, education level, economy, multiple pregnancy, hydatidiform mole, and history of HG. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnant women at the Muhammadiyah Hospital of North Sumatra in 2023. Method: This type of research is an analytical observational study with a casecontrol study design. The target population of this study was pregnant women in the first trimester at the Muhammadiyah Hospital of North Sumatra in 2023, totaling 42 pregnant women, the sample used in this study used the total sampling technique, medical record data collection and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: The results of this study using univariate and bivariate analysis showed
that the prevalence of pregnant women in the first trimester at the Muhammadiyah Hospital of North Sumatra in 2023 was 42 (36 pregnant women experienced hyperemesis gravidarum and 6 did not experience hyperemesis gravidarum). Conclusion: This study found that hyperemesis gravidarum was associated with
maternal age (p=0.000), table (p=0.000), parity (p=0.000), low education level (p=0.001), and low economic table (p=0.001).)
