Abstract

Infant mortality is the death of an infant between birth and one year of age. Infant mortality is associated with many things. Infant mortality is divided into two categories based on its cause: endogenous (or neonatal death) and exogenous (or post-neonatal death). Endogenous infant mortality is the death of an infant that occurs in the first month after birth and is usually caused by factors carried during pregnancy. Exogenous infant mortality is the death of an infant that occurs after one month or approaching one year and is caused by factors carried during pregnancy. The health status of mothers and children in Indonesia is still far from what is expected, marked by the increasing infant mortality rate. The results of the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI) showed that the AKN
was 15 per 1,000 live births, the IMR was 24 per 1,000 live births, and the AKABA was 32 per 1,000 live births. On the other hand, it is estimated that the infant, toddler, and neonatal mortality rates will continue to decrease. Reducing the AKN to 10 per 1,000 live births and the IMR to 16 per 1,000 live births in 2024 is the goal of interventions that support child survival. However, in accordance with the
Sustainable Development Targets, in 2030, the AKABA is expected to reach 18.8 per 1000 live births. (Indonesian Health Profile, 2019).
